Settling In

Every child is different and that means every settling in session will be different. At Park Hill we can customise your child’s settling in sessions so that both parent(s)/carer and child feel secure in the settling before beginning their first full session.

At the first settling in session, we invite you to stay with your child so that they can familiarise themselves with the room they will be in and they will begin developing their bond with their key worker. This will allow your child to feel secure developing a bond, whilst still having a familiar face nearby. As your child becomes more comfortable in the nursery, you will be able to leave your child for short periods of time to build their confidence and make them aware you will always come back to pick them up at the end of the day.

During your settling in visits, we will ensure that we understand your child’s current routine, how your child likes to be comforted, if they have a special comforter, a favourite story or activity they like to do. Throughout your child’s time at nursery, their Key Worker will tailor activities to suit your child’s interests.

We typically offer three 2hour settling in sessions the week prior to your child beginning nursery. All of our settling in sessions are free of charge. At Park Hill we are happy for you and your child to take as long as you need in the settling in process. If it is your child’s first time in nursery then we offer a longer settling in period. Please feel free to discuss this with the Nursery Manager during the registration process or at the Home Visit.
