Sports 2
At Park Hill we offer a wide range of sporting activities and games which enables all children from the youngest (3 years) to the eldest (11 years) to learn the basic skills and develop confidence in their own abilities.

All our sports are co-ordinated by Mrs Dick. The Nursery and Kindergarten classes mainly have their sports lessons in Park Hill's pretty and spacious garden. On Fridays, between March and October, these classes walk to Richmond Park (weather permitting) where they participate in a number of different activities including some for physical development.

The smallest children are introduced to sports through Teddy PEGS (Physical Education Games Skills by the Physical Education Association of the United Kingdom). It is designed for younger children to enjoy sharing newly acquired skills with others and encourages play on a 'one to one' basis. This is a progressive scheme created to develop game skills within the requirements of the National Curriculum. The children work towards each colour-coded award of a certificate and a badge by practising skills in the following areas:

Running
Jumping
Hopping and skipping
Throwing, diving and catching balls
Quoits and bean bags
Using bats and balls

Having attained the Yellow and Purple Teddy PEGS awards, Transition and Form I children move on to the more advanced PEGS scheme which includes developing the skills of:

Kicking and dribbling balls
Striking
Throwing and catching
Improvement of stamina e.g. skipping with a rope

As with Teddy PEGS, these pupils are awarded certificates and badges on completion of each stage.

First thing on Friday mornings, Mrs Dick takes Transition and Form I children, by coach, to the Malden Centre where swimming lessons are taught by specialist teachers.

All classes from Transition upwards make good use of the facilities at the Hawker Centre, a short coach ride away, for their sports lessons. In addition to PEGS for Transition, these include Kwick cricket and football for Form I. The Park Hill Football team participates in the annual pre prep schools' soccer festival at Shrewsbury House School.

Forms I, II and III have football, Kwick cricket, rounders, netball, hockey, athletics and tennis lessons. Our football coach, Paul, is Coerver qualified. Matches take place against other schools in rounders, netball, football and Kwick cricket.
